Commission A Portrait

I am happy to discuss a potential clients requirements over the telephone between the hours of 10am and 9pm. From this initial conversation we can establish the nature of the subject, size of the finished piece and budget.

Generally I find that busy lives preclude more than one sitting. This usually takes between one and two hours when the pose, setting and attitude is established. At the same time I will take backup photographs, sketches and notes from which I can complete the portrait.

At this point a deposit of 30% of the agreed price will be required to include any necessary travel expenses.
It is possible to paint a portrait from a photograph, but this entirely depends on the quality of the image.
I prefer whenever possible to take the photographs myself. Posthumous portraits are possible only when a suitable photograph, or photographs are available.

Price

This depends entirely on the requirements of the client. However a general guide would be head, or head and shoulders (12” x 12” canvas) from a photograph could be as little as £1200 unframed. Smaller oil sketches of houses or pets (approximate size 10” x 8”) can be undertaken from £500.
